Pelosi Pearls

Biden's tie - so cute.. brand?
P's necklace.

While Nancy Pelosi made various strange faces last night during the State of the Union (I caught her hiding a yawn twice) her pearls behaved just like a lady. She wears the multicolor strand often. They're not only the right size, but those are the necklaces that go with everything. I've made a few before that sold quickly. Meriwether McGettigan is the main jeweler for Pelosi, specializing in estate jewelry.

Spoonflower

My sister and I are always on the hunt for good fabric. She's recently done all of the curtains in her house! Gorgeous! I had to plead with the women at Calico Corners to let me buy a bolt of fabric to make curtains for my place. Typically you order the fabric and they make the curtains and ship them to you weeks later. Being the impulsive crafter, I begged, and went so far as to say, "this is the only day I can shop during the entire year so you let me leave with bolt, or I won't be able to buy anything!" Desperation! They gave in. But - I should have looked on Spoonflower first - where you can design your own fabric.

Be Happier.

This Emotional Life is one of the best programs I have seen since, the largely-unrelated-though-still-resounding, Brick City on Sundance. I watched it, and then went in the next morning to teach it all to my students. Did it relate to British Literature? No. Is it just as valid? Absolutely. (Oh no, I've become one of those people who asks themselves questions just to answer them.) It led to one of the most fantastic discussions with my students, and there is the beauty in teaching - I could immediately connect with 80 students about something that struck me, and will in turn, perhaps, strike them. But, catch on to this now, I guarantee you will feel differently tomorrow. Larry David thinks so.

Style blogger Erin Gates writes about it here.

Deepak Chopra weighs in.

The Globe's perspective, and suggestions for a This Emotional Life drinking game. Well that's a happy thought.

Je ne sais quoi?

This seems to be a french thing... teeny tiny little plastic desserts. A croissant ring? Yes please.

Magnifique. See Le Blog de Lilli Prune.

Boutique Line at F21 Delights.

Our family friend Joanna Bean has let us in on her recent work with Forever 21 and their launch of a new line, Boutique.

Boutique's Resort 2010 line is right up the alley of a New England girl summering in Chatham, Newport and Camden. Granted, you've got to be choosy, Forever 21 can keep you looking chic and on trend, or, as my Mother likes to say, mutton dressed as lame. In other words, appropriate choices for you are key.

Resort .. or for a touch of spring when your wardrobe still only boasts winter black. Sort of like Frida Kahlo meets Scandinavia.
Adorable bright bubble skirt.

Nautical? Always. Color so inspiring that it will pull you out of those nasty Ides ahead of us, when spring seems out of reach. Youthful enough, but with mature finishes.

Que bella!

How did I miss this?

How did I miss my sister's photo recap of 2009? Special note there for Mary Hardwick Scripps, a dear family friend who passed away last year. She is the inspiration for much of my jewelry making. As a child, Mary made some of the most beautiful unique pieces, with such fine beads from around the world, and an artistic flair that is unrivaled. I'll have to find some pictures of us together and her jewelry work. She is greatly missed.

Here is her recap.

We have been really blessed so far in 2010. A thankful outlook for the year ahead and grateful for wonderful friends and family.

(p.s. Breaking cardinal rule of Pritchard side - allowing myself to be photographed with drink in hand. For shame! )

Kyureo

I'm in Providence today, and after waiting for months, was able to nip into Kyureo in Wayland Square. This home decor store is incredible. The name means "a curious or unusual object of art." Considering I just picked up two ceramic pug salt and pepper shakers (one an angel, the other a devil) and pined for a giant hand painted Peruvian oil painting of the Madonna and child.. well, the name is fitting.

Owner Jay Luiz has such a recognizable style in his interior design picks, that last summer while strolling through the South End Open Market - I saw some giant sculpture and two throw pillows and thought - wait, wait don't tell me... and it was a Kyureo booth.

Michael and I are still in search of a giant, giant painting or piece of art for our biggest open wall. I've been hunting for months. Suggestions welcome. No luck at Kyureo today - but if I lived nearby, I'd likely do a weekly check.

The oil I mentioned. Texting with Papa now trying to convince him to buy it. Someone must have this!

C'est le premier.

After pouring through Le Figaro, my sister stumbled upon MANOUSH. Behold, the whimsy only French women have mastered. This french clothing company has just the right amount of kookiness, tailored lines, and sparkle.

Their website alone is visually the best thing I've come across in months.

This jeweled jersey top (above) is like a Lilly Pulitzer vacationing at Le Negresco.

Even a beige top turns into that je ne sais chic at the hands of Manoush.

Belated Chrismukkah.

Christmas 09 was wonderful. We had another Feast of Various Fishes, spent time with family, and managed to have a glass of scotch or two. Imagine if I'd been organized enough to send out a Holiday card?

I'll go by MISS it makes me sound skinny.

Starting with new brainy students tomorrow. Dear Ms. Wassner has sent along some of her favorite found responses to ready me for the insightful comments.

Of Christmas Past

Finally home. Looking forward to another Feast of the Seven Fishes (pretending we're Italian) and family. Enjoy the holiday!

Christmas 2008. It snowed for 3 days straight and Monty and Tenby made a peace treaty. Notable guests: Charla's first Christmas. Notable food: Those 7 fish again. Notable gift: The Fair Isle sweaters.

*******************************************************************************************

Christmas 2007. Notable guests, Frank Jones. Notable meal, the soup that contained all of the seven fishes (HRPWR - can you confirm?) Notable gift (that has changed us forever....), the onion goggles.

Is this '05? Look at those blond roots! That was the year of the Christmastini....

Moving on...

Transitions are a funny thing for me and I sort of have a strange way of dealing with them - known as the laughcry. Really laughing and really crying at the same time. I'm leaving my kiddies today as my master's practicum comes to an end. How did I turn into such a sap?

There were days like this:

And days like this:

But I think nothing will top the notes I received from the kids today...
A few of my favorite lines:

Thank you Miss Weiss you are a great teacher even though I didn't say a word in your class.

Thank you for making me read Hamelt.

Freakin' sweet you got a job!

I'm a going to a miss you and I'm a going to come to your job with you, kai? bai!

Holiday time: I'm as crazy as...

...a person at the post office. I think many people just save up any insanity they possess, wait until they get in a line of a 100 people at the post office, and unleash. Incredibly long story short, if you find me a bit "off" I'm sure I caught it there. Wanted to share a few holiday orders going out!
